The DNS problem

I think it's manageable once "everything" runs on IPv6, then literally
everything can have a unique IP, including domain names.
Indeed, the Internet worked before DNS, but then there wasn't the problem
of running out of IP addresses, and probably shared hosting was also not
part of the "deal".
I always wondered, how come the MAC addresses of adapters never really took
off in terms of using them to their full potential.
