volunteer needed to help organize membership list

Hi Robin,
Wouldn't it make more sense for individual and organizational members to
register and maintain their profile information on the website? AFAICT, as
of today, nearly 2/3 of our membership has registered so far. Why not have a
volunteer contact the remaining members and help them get registered on the
site?
I see a few advantages to distributing the updating of profile information
to members (including setting the country in which they consider themselves
based, organizational information (e.g., rss feed), etc.):
1. Members control their information and can update it as often as
needed/required.
2. Membership roster can be exported, sorted as needed for administrative
purposes, e.g., republished on Membership Roster page in the format you
suggest.
3. Having information duplicated in multiple places inevitably introduces
errors
Maybe I'm overlooking something, but this seems a pretty good path forward.
Cheers,
