Also on 6 Bucket List

Dear Zahid and all,

Absolutely, safeguards against capture is a critical concept to consider.

Are any of you interested in having ICANN staff open a wiki or discussion page to continue the input and development of the place of individuals and of users in the ICANN process? I am getting emails on this (and my notorious bucket list I circulated earlier that has now been reworked) from various quarters. Maybe we need to combine these discussions. NCUC expressed an interest in this dialogue.

I assume you haven't heard anything back from the Board on the GNSO/ALAC statement you submitted. It may be that this more general statement is all the Board wants or needs right now. That doesn't mean, though, that the community should not plow forward with developing a long-term vision. I think we need particularly to reach out to new participants in ICANN (and people who are focusing on the next billion) and other communities with an interest.

Thanks,

The future of ICANN governance was the topic of working group 2 at the ALAC Summit. We were able to get a report in for our limited time to work. It mostly focuses on furthering the internationalization of ICANN. But these are related issues and worth discussing further.

Alan’s responses are useful for me to understand better this issue. I agree that since we are all individuals.

That is why I think it is important for each constituency/SG to have reasonable & appropriate rules to ensure that this does not become a back door to bypass what may be a credentials process.

Would the concept of safeguards against capture not to result from this process be a reasonable concept to consider?

Thanks for the update, Cheryl - in the spirit of working together and moving forward, I believe the whole NCUC community will be very interested in knowing which groups these are, and in being informed of the discussions that are taking place between and amongst your prospective constituency and these groups.

Cheers
Mary

BTW, the "bucket list" concept is now being discussed among two other groups and we have already begun to make changes and to explore a number of other avenues. So, if you have any comments, questions, concerns or would otherwise like to engage in discussions about the long-term concept, please speak up.

Hi Cheryl and everyone,

This week's ICANN meeting has provided us all with useful feedback about the community's concerns and questions regarding a new NCSG. I for one am glad also that Carlos and I had the opportunity to chat with you, and to confirm that we all would like to move forward from previous disagreements, and work together towards a robust and workable NCSG within the reformulated GNSO structure.

In that regard, may I suggest that NCUC members take the time to review again both the majority NCUC proposal and that put forward by Cheryl and the potential cyber-safety constituency, with a view toward identifying remaining issues of divergence and discussing whether these differences can be bridged?

Thank you all,
Mary

Dear Bill,

As it states, the 6 buckets list was only a template for discussion. I am not "proposing" this, only that further study and analysis be done about the vision of a fully mature NCSG before setting an inconsistent structure in place.

I would be happy to engage in discussion with you if you have questions.

Cheryl,

Thanks for clarifying your thinking, I was pretty confused in the
meeting by your prior explanation of how you expected this to work. I
would strongly encourage you to file an amendment to your submission
to the board so that they too will have a better understanding of what
you are proposing.

Best,

Bill
