Colleagues:
Good news: In this morning's GNSO Council meeting, the motion to
launch a policy development process to create new rights to domain
names for Inter-Governmental Organizations was DEFEATED.
7 votes were needed to launch a PDP, and the proposal was only
supported by 5 votes. NCUC, Registries and Registrars voted against
the PDP.
I appreciated the stated concern from the Registries that since the
proposal required binding arbitration, national courts would have no
say to protect the free expression rights of their citizens to use
domain names.
That vote should be the end of that issue.
Best,
Robin
