Purpose of WHOIS materials

In response to a GNSO Council request, ICANN Staffer
Maria Farrell has provided informational materials
relating to the purpose of WHOIS.  The documents
posted deal with:

1.  The uses of WHOIS data
2.  examples of language on WHOIS purposes within gTLD
registrant agreements
3.  similar examples from the ccTLD community
4.  a summary of interpretations of the definition of
WHOIS drawn from public comments

The next Whois Task Force call will be held on Monday,
18 September. It will discuss:

*       Suggested changes to the Operational Point of
Contact (OPoC) proposal following the discussion on
the 26 August call.
*       Suggested changes to the OPoC following the
discussion on the consequences of removing data from
Whois.

Reminder -- in view of Kathy's departure from the
WHOIS TF, the NCUC should sometime soon designate a
