Hi everyone,

Tech Daily's People Column this week notes the new hires/shifts in
staff at ICANN. Thought you'd be interested.

Due to a bigger and better budget, the International Corporation
for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is expanding its payroll.
New on the roster is Olof Nordling, manager of policy
development coordination. Nordling is from Sweden and spent much of
his career with TeliaSonera, a telecommunications provider that
serves Scandinavian and Baltic countries.
In what must have been a particularly tough phase of his
professional trajectory, Nordling was chancellor of science and
technology at the Swedish embassy in Paris.
And speaking of diplomatic-sounding titles, Maria Farrell has
joined ICANN as supporting officer for generic Internet endings such
as .com. The Irish national was formerly policy manager for
e-business, information technology and telecom at the International
Chamber of Commerce in Paris.
She also has spent a great deal of time in the classroom.
Farrell holds a master's degree in interactive media from the Dublin
Institute of Technology and a master's degree in science from the
London School of Economics. And she is not finished yet. She also is
pursuing a master's in business administration part time at the
Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School in Belgium.
Not to be outdone in the accent department is Donna Austin, the
supporting officer for country-based domain name endings such as .jp
for Japan. The Australian spent many years in the Australian
government and was most recently manager of two broadcasting grant
programs.
Holding down the technical fort is Barbara Roseman, the new
operations manager for the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority
(IANA). For those readers who might not know all the inner workings
of the organization, IANA oversees the allocation of Internet
protocol addresses, which give discreet numbers to every computer on
the worldwide network.
Roseman has been a regular consultant to ICANN since 2000 and
was formerly a manager at Global Crossing. She holds a bachelor's
degree from Mills College and a master's degree from the City
University of New York.
