We googled as well as giggled. That just wasn't put into the
IM messages. The assumption I had was that people did
their own background research - I certainly did - and
came to the conversation to make selections, not to build
up a record.

I think you make some interesting points here:

>Marco Cappato is interesting, great background. He has been involved
>in WSIS, and has been very outspoken against Tunisian involvement
>(the appointment of a particularly foul man to head the Tunis Summit

...and thanks for that contribution. Ideally, it should have been made

before, when Cappato was nominated on the public list. (umm, "I
thought you would provide more information about the people
*we* are considering...." )

But if your bottom line is this:

> But with what I know about him I lean towards supporting him
> on the list

Then I agree, and so do the others I think.

>Before going public with the list I think it would be a good idea to
>ask people concerned if they understand what's likely to be involved
>in joining the working group and if they are willing to have their
>names put forward by the constituency.

C'mon Adam, of course we are doing this.

> And produce a biography
>of the person, which is what I thought your winnowing process
>would do. It's not clear that a list of names plus policy/technical/
>region will be of much value to Markus Kummer.

Of course we are doing that.
