A United States Federal appeals court has upheld an injunction against Verio, an American firm that used information taken from Register.com's WHOIS customer database to flood people with advertisements through phone calls, e-mail messages and regular mail. Register.com had sued Verio, claiming that the scheme violated rules that restrict the use of such data. The trial judge had issued the preliminary injunction essentially banning Verio from accessing Register.com customer data for mass-marketing purposes.
