A subcommittee of the United States House of Representatives is considering a bill that would essentially increase penalties (including possible jail time) for knowingly providing incorrect information when registering a domain name, if that person is found to have violated a copyright or trademark. A number of cyberliberties experts worry that the proposal will hurt online privacy and deter people from speaking out via the Internet.
