Apparently the CIRA's BOD appointed nominating committee proposed six
candidates and two additional candidates were nominated by the members.
Only three will be elected. I expect there will be some publicity over this
when the elections are finished on Thursday. Jamie

Voting for CIRA Board of Directors Elections Begins
Tomorrow (Friday, June 7, 2002)
Online elections give dot-ca domain name holders opportunity to participate
in the governance of Canada's name space.

Ottawa, June 6, 2002 - Online polls for the Canadian Internet Registration
Authority's (CIRA) second online Board of Directors elections will open
tomorrow, June 7, 2002, at 12:00 noon (EDT). All 140,000 CIRA members, who
also are dot-ca Internet domain name holders, will be able to begin voting
for up to three candidates to fill three seats on the CIRA Board of
Directors by visiting CIRA's web site at www.cira.ca.

"This election is important to Canada because it gives dot-ca domain name
holders, who are CIRA members, a direct say in the governance of Canada's
Internet domain by selecting its Board members," said Professor David G.
Macneil of the University of New Brunswick's Faculty of Computer Science,
CIRA's Returning Officer.

The CIRA election process started in February with the appointment of a
Nomination Committee. Members, candidates, and the general public also
participated in an online Question and Answer Forum addressing dot-ca
governance issues. Questions and answers posted on the Forum are available
at www.cira.ca/bb2002/index.html. The voting period starting today is the
final stage of the election process.

A total of eight candidates will be listed on the CIRA online ballot. The
CIRA Nominations Committee, appointed by the CIRA Board, nominated six
candidates. CIRA members nominated two candidates through an online
nominations process. Candidates' names and election statements are available
through www.cira.ca/en/elections-2002.html. The three candidates garnering
the most votes will serve three-year terms on the CIRA Board.

Each CIRA member will require a CIRA user account number and password to
vote. Members who have misplaced their user account number and/or password
should contact their registrar as soon as possible to obtain a replacement.

Online voting begins at 12:00 noon (12:00 EDT) on June 7, 2002 and will
close at 8:00 pm (20:00 EDT) on June 13, 2002. Election results will be
posted at www.cira.ca by June 20, 2002.
