The European Parliament has approved a proposal to create a ".eu" top-level
domain, to be used by European citizens, organizations and businesses. It is
anticipated that the European Commission will soon begin efforts to select a
"private sector, non-profit organisation to operate the '.eu' Registry."
European Commissioner Erkki Liikanen said that .eu domain names could be
available "by the end of the year or early 2003."
