This is formal request for the ICANN staff to provide the NCC with an
explanation of ICANN policy with respect using its contracts with registrars
to enforce foreign court judgments. In the CNNews.com case, there seems to
be a legitimate jurisdiction dispute between the US and Chinese courts. I
would like to know why ICANN got involved, and what the general policy is.
It is my understanding that no court anywhere has asked ICANN's assistance,
but that one of the parties, CNN, did. Jamie

CNNEWS.COM DECISION STAYED; ICANN TELLS REGISTRAR TO HOLD
OFF TRANSFER
Thanks to an ILN reader who followed up on last week's
report which questioned why ICANN seemed to get involved in
the cnnews.com case by asking a Chinese registrar to comply
with a U.S. decision and transfer the domain. In new
development late last week, a judge in Virginia stayed the
trial court's decision while the case is under appeal.
ICANN's general counsel has apparently now asked the Chinese
registrar to hold off transferring the domain.
