*Dear colleagues,*
I have been following the GNSO session in the previous ICANN meeting
on *Developing
Human Rights Impact Assessment (HRIA) Guidelines for DNS Abuse Mitigation*,
led by *Farzaneh*. During this important discussion, I had the opportunity
to present a case from Africa (Sudan) titled:
*“Blocking of Websites in Sudan... Who is Responsible?”*
This case highlights a critical issue: the blocking and suspension of
websites and domain names without explanation, transparency, or prior
notice to registrants. Unfortunately, this is not unique to Sudan—it
reflects a broader trend across Africa where similar actions are taking
place without due process, affecting freedom of expression, access to
information, and other fundamental digital rights.
Your contributions are vital in bringing attention to this matter. I warmly
invite you to share any similar cases, experiences, or perspectives from
your respective countries. By documenting these incidents collectively, we
can raise awareness and advocate more effectively for fair, transparent,
and rights-respecting DNS abuse mitigation policies.
Together, our shared efforts can help ensure these human rights concerns
are addressed within ICANN and the wider internet governance ecosystem.
Your input will be invaluable in shaping a stronger, rights-based approach
to DNS governance in Africa.
Please feel free to respond with any relevant information. I truly
appreciate your support and look forward to collaborating with you on this
important matter.
Warm regards,
Sara Mohamed
