At that session, among other topics, there were discussions around transfer policy, DNS Abuse and a final report on protections for intergovernmental organizations. Later in the year the Annual General Meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur in September, where progress was reported on many of the usual topics, such as subsequent procedures, internationalized domain names, DNS abuse and a plenary on the topic of “Internet Fragmentation”. Over the past year the NCUC Executive Committee has discussed ways to enhance membership engagement, although results have been difficult to achieve.

Looking ahead, 2023 is sure to be an interesting one for the ICANN community, especially since, as you may have heard, the ICANN President and CEO, Mr Göran Marby, has announced his departure. On a more pedestrian note, the registration for the Community Forum, to convene this year in March in Cancun, Mexico, has opened. I look forward to hearing if any North America members plan to attend or participate virtually, the latter a bit less challenging due to a more advantageous time zone! I will come back with more about planning for the Community Forum after the new year.

Meanwhile, I wish you all a happy, healthy and safe holiday season and New Year.

Ken Herman

Executive Committee North America Regional Representative

Non-Commercial Users Constituency (NCUC)
