Please find below the details of my application.

I am currently a student of the law at the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, in my final year of study.

I was introduced to ICANN via my work for the Centre for Internet and Society, an activist and research organisation based out of Bangalore/New Delhi. I was fascinated by the idea of internet governance, especially given the fact that we stand on the brink of a transition of the likes that has no precedent. I am very eager to be a part of this process. I was fortunate enough to be able to raise my submissions at the ICANN 54 conference at Dublin.

My work for ICANN has included a detailed analysis of their Documentary Information Disclosure Policy, where I broke down all the DIDP responses made and tried to examine obstacles in the path of full and transparent disclosure. I have also been a part of discussions at the CCWG Accountability meetings and working groups, and have been following the transition process with keen interest as it unfolds. As a student of the law, the development of an entirely new system of regulating the internet is fascinating, and has gripped my attention

However, it cannot be denied that given my lack of a technical background, and the peculiar and unique nature of ICANN policy, there is still much about this ecosystem that is out of my reach. I would be extremely grateful if I were chosen to be a mentee as a part of this program as I am eager to participate fully and meaningfully at the deliberations in Marrakesh and beyond, through the mentorship of someone with experience who will be able to guide me through the process. As my work has shown, I am deeply invested in attempting to make clarity of the work I have done so far, especially towards creating a more representative, participatory and transparent Post Transition IANA.

Padmini Baruah
V Year, B.A.LL.B.
