Hello Fellows, good friday in preparation for a great weekend:<br>
<br>
As indicated in my previous email to all of you, I have been attending
the Governmental Advisory Committe (GAC) main discussions since ICANN
50 (London), unfortunately not to all the meetings in person, but also
virtually. In these sense, please keep the following information as an
introduction to the GAC, and get ready to ask question to me or to the
really GAC expert during the Morning sessions that Janice has planned
to all of us.<br>

<br>
<u><b>WHAT IS THE GAC?</b></u><br>
The GAC is an advisory committee to ICANN, created under the ICANN
ByLaws. The GAC provides advice to ICANN on public policy aspects of
ICANN’s responsibilities regarding the Internet Domain Name System
(DNS). A very important issue: the <b>GAC is not a decision-making
body.</b> <b>It advises</b> ICANN on issues that are within ICANN’s
scope.<br>
<br>
The advices of the GAC must be taken into account by the<b> ICANN Board</b>,
and
where the Board proposes actions inconsistent with GAC advice it
must give reasons for doing so and attempt to reach a mutually
acceptable solution.<br>
<br>

all the Supporting Organizations (SOs), Advisory Committees (ACs)

<u><b>GAC MEMBERS </b></u><br>
The Governmental Advisory Committee is comprised of appointed
representatives of national governments, multi-national governmental
organizations and treaty organizations, and distinct economies.<br>
<br>
It was in June 2014 when my Administration sent an official letter to
the GAC chairman, expressing Venezuela’s interest in joining the GAC
as a Member. After that, we received response from the GAC chair,
giving us welcome, in my case as the <b>Appointed representative</b>
and my colleague Mr. Jhonder Depablos as the <b>Alternate
representative</b> for Venezuela to the Committee. <br>

There are currently 151 Members States. Please take a look to this

<u><b>GAC AUTHORITIES</b></u><br>
<br>
The previous GAC Chair and Vice Chairs formally completed their terms
of office at the end of the Marrakech meeting (ICANN52). All they
served two consecutive terms and so none were eligible for re-election
in their role.<br>
<br>
The GAC elects a Chair and Vice Chairs from its membership. The present
authorities were elected at ICANN 51, Los Angeles, and their

</b>The GAC’s key role is to provide advice to ICANN on issues of
public policy, especially where there may be an interaction between
ICANN’s activities or policies and national laws or international
agreements.ICANN duly takes into account the GAC’s advice on public
policy matters, both in the formulation and adoption of policies<b>.
The GAC works on the basis of seeking consensus among its membership.<br>
