I am planning to come but not self-nominating for this funding.</div><div>for balance in workshops, I saw some unbalanced workshops approved :) you can accept google and peter participation and makig the workshop as roundtable format.</div>

At present I have just four speakers lined up because I wanted to see how this issue evolves, so in principle can add up to two more. This is probably advisable with Kathy presenting remotely, you never know if there'll be glitches. The question is who. I've had expressions of interest from Google and Peter Dengate Thrush, which would be good for the dialogue but leave us with a unduly skewed (Northern) demographic. Another option might be to use the travel slot to bring someone from a developing country who's deep into this issue, although I had trouble identifying non-usual suspects for the Durban discussion. And I don't know if ICANN would accept giving the support to a non-NCUC member, in which case the panel would then skew too heavily toward NCUC members….ay yi yi.</div>

<br></div><div>What would not work is the y'all come approach of asking on ncuc-discuss hey who's interested, as this could result in a flood of self-nominations, a complicated selection process, and some difficulty telling ICANN this person just <i>has</i> to be there. We need to act relatively fast here and not turn it into a "goodie" positional good rather than a way to enhance NCUC's workshop and representation.</div>

I spoke with Rob Hoggarth the other day for clarification on the deal here. ICANN considers that the budget allocation a) should be used to support the travel of people who really have to be in Bali for NCUC's closed generics workshop; and b) should be viewed as two integral "slots", meaning that the funds can't be divided up as we sometimes do for ICANN meetings, with one person getting the travel support and another getting the hotel, etc. He is seeking clarification as to whether a per diem is also included.</div>

If by some chance you don't need it to come or prefer to stay home and speak via remote participation, the NCUC EC would then propose to staff that it be reallocated to someone else on the assumption they'd help with outreach and any workshop logistics etc.</div>
