Thanks Andrea. Glad to hear that it has been requested and indeed, it is not supposed to be on the agenda. It will be by invitation.

Has it been confirmed or are we still waiting to hear?

Ken

Okay, this is a sign-up room. He has indeed made that request. I just want to make sure it is clear that this is not a session that will be on the official schedule.

Thanks!

Kind Regards,

Andrea

Thanks Andrea. Today Benjamin assured us that there is a separate room already arranged for a noncommercial workshop. Perhaps he can explain more tomorrow.

Hi EC,

I’m noticing the suggestion of a noncommercial session at ICANN77. All sessions for ICANN77 have already been requested and confirmed and the window is closed for official ICANN77 sessions. I can try to reserve a sign up room for what is being suggested below, or is this workshop going to take place off site?

Thanks!

Kind Regards,

Andrea

Hello Fellow EC members.

Milton arranged a conference call this morning with Benjamin, Julf, Farzaneh and me, to discuss the ICANN77 events we have been planning. Milton intervened since he observed that we were not getting any response from my e-mails regarding how to move forward, and for that I am thankful.

Besides some discussion of the status of funding from PIR, which remains unclear, Milton also agreed to propose a programme for a non-commercial session at ICANN77, and that is what you see below. We should discuss this at our EC meeting tomorrow.

Ken

Theme:

Access to DNS in the Age of Sanctions and Trade Barriers

This workshop will examine the way nation-state power conflicts erect barriers to global internet access, focusing on DNS. It would cover topics such as how sanctions affect the provision of DNS services, how ICANN's global policies and contracts intersect with foreign policy pressures, and how certain forms of social media regulations affect Internet access throughout the world. It will explore how Noncommercial stakeholders in the ICANN environment can address those problems.

Invited Speakers:

* Farzaneh Badiei, Digital Medusa on her sanctions work

* Alan Davidson or Susan Chalmers, NTIA, on U.S. OFAC and its relationship to ICANN

* Someone from ICANN legal on implementation of Workstream 2 (general OFAC license)

* Greg Nojeim from CDT

* Milton Mueller, GT IGP on the TikTok ban

* Kathleen Burke from Public Knowledge kathleen at publicknowledge.org <mailto:kathleen at publicknowledge.org> on DNS access restrictions from copyright and trademark interests

* Invite PIR to address sanctions

* TWNIC on cross-strait barriers to Internet access in Asia

There would be 4 15-minute presentations from key speakers (Badiei, Davidson, ICANN, Mueller) would be followed by a roundtable discussion featuring:

*	Nojeim, CDT
*	PIR
*	TWNIC
*	Public Knowledge or EFF
*	Others?
