<div dir="ltr"><div>Hi Akinremi,</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks for engaging and giving clarifications.</div>I would like to add some points based on what you shared:<div>- ticking all boxes: I am not sure to get the correct meaning here but I assume that means candidates match all criteria set in the job description or expression of interest. I have a concern there as any list of criteria is usually based on must and nice to have, to emphasize what is really important and critical.</div><div> A job description shouldn't not laundry list which end up excluding too many potential candidates. I want also to add that if we review the criteria or what is looked for, many of them are subjective even if we try to create some proxies or indirect way to assess them, they remain however elusively subjective and with a risk of bias. Even in term of recruitment practice, the purpose is to find someone who can find and help who might lack some nice to have expertise, some competencies can be improved and understand that even current board got some trainings etc.</div><div>- quality application: again that can be questionable as it should made clear what is expected as "good" or "poor" application. I see this as possible hinder for those outside ICANN. what would mean objectively a non good application? missing some information?didn't develop some points or highlights expected by nomcom? missing some critical skills or competencies that can be verified or other soft skills that can be hard to judge from an application only?</div><div>- reapplying candidates: I see you made the point linking poor application and potential candidates not reapplying. I am not sure to get the relation here but with regard to candidates to reapply, I think nomcom can improve that. the application has a "cost" for candidates with filling form, asking people to recommend them and then writing down a recommendation or filling form etc . I understand that nomcom made several steps and checkpoints in order to judge candidates and narrow down but that also add effort for candidates. That effort can be a reason for them to not reapply if they are not sure about possible success (we are dealing with human beings). nomcom can help by giving more clear and specific feedback about non selection like indicating areas or skills to be improved etc. I understand that much work but that could be more effective in long run to ensure bigger pool of candidates and also help to evaluate objectively .</div><div><br></div><div>I want also to add one comment as ICANN accountability co-rapporteur for ws2 diversity subgroup. I have feeling of deja-vu, deja-entendu regarding the arguments of competency vs diversity and that is why I advice caution as some might imply that working toward diversity means lowering standards, which is not the case in any way. </div><div><br></div><div>I hope that can be useful for next nomcom, as you will be our rep for one more term there.</div><div><br></div><div>Best,</div><div>Rafik</div><div> <br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">Le lun. 15 août 2022 à 23:20, Akinremi Peter Taiwo <<a href="mailto:compsoftnet@gmail.com">compsoftnet@gmail.com</a>> a écrit :<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr"><div><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif;font-size:11pt">Thanks Kathy and other folks.
