<div>Hi, Norbert-<br></div><div><br></div><div>Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree that more needs to be done to connect the unconnected,
particularly in the global South. And I appreciate that definitions of Internet
governance, and of the missions of the institutions which are involved in Internet governance topics, vary in scope. Both are continuously being explored and debated by us
all. In my view, however, ICANN is not responsible for the rollout of broadband
infrastructure.<br></div><div><br></div><div>It is my understanding that ICANN is primarily concerned with the running of the technical
infrastructure of the Internet (things like the allocation of unique
identifiers such as domain names), and for making sure the Domain Name System is there to
support the physical infrastructure when it does come to more parts of the world. That
said, the Internet Society does some great work trying to close the gap between
the connected and the unconnected, and in positively encouraging external investment in
these underlying infrastructural issues, so it might be worth investigating whether there is an ISOC chapter in your country, in case you are not already a member.<br></div><div><div><br></div><div>Best wishes,<br></div></div><div><br></div><div class="protonmail_signature_block "><div class="protonmail_signature_block-user "><div>Ayden Férdeline<br></div><div><a title="http://www.linkedin.com/in/ferdeline" href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/ferdeline">linkedin.com/in/ferdeline</a><br></div></div><div class="protonmail_signature_block-proton protonmail_signature_block-empty"><br></div></div><div><br></div><blockquote type="cite" class="protonmail_quote"><div>-------- Original Message --------<br></div><div>Subject: Re: [NCUC-DISCUSS] Meeting with ICANN CEO<br></div><div>Local Time: 10 February 2017 5:26 PM<br></div><div>UTC Time: 10 February 2017 17:26<br></div><div>From: norbertglakpe@gmail.com<br></div><div>To: Stephanie Perrin <stephanie.perrin@mail.utoronto.ca><br></div><div>william.drake@uzh.ch, ncuc-discuss@lists.ncuc.org<br></div><div><br></div><div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:"comic sans ms",sans-serif;font-size:small;color:rgb(11,83,148)">Dear all,<br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:"comic sans ms",sans-serif;font-size:small;color:rgb(11,83,148)">I have few questions for the CEO of ICANN:<br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:"comic sans ms",sans-serif;font-size:small;color:rgb(11,83,148)">You recently said that the future of Internet is Africa.<br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:"comic sans ms",sans-serif;font-size:small;color:rgb(11,83,148)">Then I would want to recall that Africa actually has the lowest Internet penetration ratio.<br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:"comic sans ms",sans-serif;font-size:small;color:rgb(11,83,148)">We need broadband Internet in our schools to disseminate knowledge and improve the quality of the education.<br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:"comic sans ms",sans-serif;font-size:small;color:rgb(11,83,148)">We need affordable Internet for our companies, businesses, startups to enable innovation. We need braodband in our homes for so many raisons.<br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:"comic sans ms",sans-serif;font-size:small;color:rgb(11,83,148)">We need to get rural areas online to let Internet trigger the socio-economic development.<br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:"comic sans ms",sans-serif;font-size:small;color:rgb(11,83,148)">I would want to add that the future of Africa is Internet (and electricity).<br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:"comic sans ms",sans-serif;font-size:small;color:rgb(11,83,148)"><div class="gmail_default"><br></div><div class="gmail_default">So, Mr CEO, What is your plan, your strategy to accelerate broadband Internet Africa <br></div></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:"comic sans ms",sans-serif;font-size:small;color:rgb(11,83,148)"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:"comic sans ms",sans-serif;font-size:small;color:rgb(11,83,148)">Thanks,<br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:"comic sans ms",sans-serif;font-size:small;color:rgb(11,83,148)"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:"comic sans ms",sans-serif;font-size:small;color:rgb(11,83,148)">Norbert Komlan GLAKPE<br></div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><div><br></div><div class="gmail_quote"><div>2017-02-08 2:16 GMT+00:00 Stephanie Perrin <span dir="ltr"><<a rel="noreferrer nofollow noopener" href="mailto:stephanie.perrin@mail.utoronto.ca">stephanie.perrin@mail.utoronto.ca</a>></span>:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><div bgcolor="#FFFFFF"><p><span class="size" style="font-size:undefinedpx"><span class="font" style="font-family:"Lucida Grande"">I agree with the
