<div class="">*Maarten Botterman (Netherlands). independent consultant, former Board Member and Chairman of the Public Interest Registry (2008 – 2016), which inter alia provides financial support to NCUC. </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">*Cherie Chalaby (Egypt). Vice Chair of the ICANN Board, returning for a third term. Serious organizational management credentials.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">*Khaled Koubaa (Tunisia). Founder and President of the Arab World Internet Institute, former Google, AfriNIC, etc. NCUC member. Probably one of the youngest people to serve, at least recently.</div>

<div class="">Please read their bios. This is a solid list in terms of skill sets and backgrounds, including from a civil society perspective. Obviously, it has one rather notable limitation, a lack of gender diversity. I can assure you that discussions on
that point were year-long and intensive and that I was very much engaged (I can’t say more due to my NonDisclosure Agreement). The NomCom became very aware of how the lack of women in the mix could be received in the community and did not take the decision
lightly or without extended consideration. But at the end of the day, as was reported previously, the pool of female candidates for the Board was really rather small, and the group members simply could not agree that any of the available options ticked all
their respective boxes as well as those who were selected. Given this outcome, one can readily speculate without undue hints from me that getting highly qualified women on the board may figure even more prominently in the 2017 NomCom’s discussions. I hope
people will bear this in mind in the next cycle when we’re doing outreach seeking applicants.</div>

<div class="">For the nonvoting GNSO Council slot, the NomCom selected</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">*Erika Mann (Germany). Probably everyone who’s been active in ICANN knows or knows of Erika, who just served two terms on the Board. She should be an excellent addition to the GNSO Council, bringing deep knowledge of the Board and governments
(was a European parliamentarian). Certainly friendly to the concerns of civil society, among many other attributes.</div>

<div class="">For the At Large Committee, the NomCom selected </div>

</div>
<div class="">*Andrey Kolesnikov (Russia) for the European slot. Another community veteran, was CEO of the Coordination Center for the ccTLD .RU (2009-2015, replaced by Putin), supported by a multistakeholder Council. Former GNSO Councilor, ISOC, etc etc.
Again, quite aware of civil society concerns.</div>

<div class="">*Javier Rua-Jovet (Puerto Rico) for the North American slot. New to the community, telecom policy background, reformer.</div>

<div class="">*Jian Zhang (China). She is a community veteran with established credentials, formerly GM of APTLD, also CNNIC, now Dot Asia. Well regarded, with global experience. </div>

<div class="">So that’s the list. All in all, I think it’s good, albeit with the caveat on the board above. Bear in mind the NomCom includes reps of every part of the ICANN community, so the selection process has a very complex geometry and processes. </div>
