There is a scheduled annual election for the chair of the GNSO’s Standing Committee on Improvements Implementation (SCI) currently taking place. Today is the deadline for nominations, and there haven’t been any yet (nor self-nominations), and the current chair is term-limited after serving two one-year terms.<br>

I have learnt that Anne Aikman-Scalese, the IPC’s representative to the SCI is interested in assuming the role of Chair. As the NCUC representative to the SCI, I am willing to nominate her, but thought I’d bring it up here first in case there are any objections to me doing this.<br>

Anne’s been a pretty attentive and active member of the SCI on pretty much all the projects the committee’s had to undertake since I’ve been a member. In case there are any concerns about nominating a member of the IPC to chair this committee, I should note that this committee is not one that handles contentious policy issues, but rather is a committee that works to review the GNSO operating procedures trying to make them and the GNSO’s work as efficient as possible. The committee only forwards recommendations to the GNSO council if and when full consensus of the committee has been achieved, so the chair’s role is one of coordination of the committee’s duties. As far as I can tell, Anne seems to be the only member willing to chair the committee, and I don’t see a problem in nominating her. However, as has been my custom, whenever a vote or decision of any kind is taking place on the SCI, I prefer to notify the NCUC membership before I act in case there are any reservations or concerns.<br>
