Hello

I’m pleased to say that all the nominees have now accepted their nominations and sent in candidate statements. Later today ICANN staff will push the button and ballots will be sent to everyone for whom we were able to verify a working email address through the processes described earlier. The ballot should look like the below. There are two notes appended at the bottom that respond to questions people raised during the process last year (Tapani and I have spent much of the morning reading the list archives to track down how things were done and announced in prior years).

The election period runs from today Wednesday 4 December through Tuesday 17 December. We should have results to announce on the 18th.

Without wanting to belabor the obvious, we very much hope that everyone who is eligible will cast their ballot. As I noted in a previous message, we had one race for a seat last year that was decided by a single vote, so every vote does count. More generally, having a properly elected, fully mandated EC is important not only for our internal purposes, but in external contexts as well. We’re in a much better position when advocating a position or claiming a seat at the table in ICANN or beyond if we can claim the mantle of democratic legitimacy and accountability. I’ve had experience dealing with representatives of not nice governments in the past where this proved important, probably others here have as well. So really, please do vote.

Thanks,

Bill

————

Mark exactly one box with an X for each of the six positions:

Chair
01 [ ] William Drake
02 [ ] Abstain

Executive Committee – Europe
03 [ ] Stefania Milan
04 [ ] Abstain

Executive Committee – Africa
05 [ ] Hago Dafalla
06 [ ] Grace Githaiga
07 [ ] Abstain

Executive Committee – Asia and the Pacific
08 [ ] Peter Green (aka Zuan Zhang, 张 钻)
09 [ ] Imran Ahmed Shah
10 [ ] Walid Al-Saqaf
11 [ ] Pranesh Prakash
12 [ ] Abstain

Executive Committee – North America
13 [ ] Roy Balleste
14 [ ] Abstain

Executive Committee – Latin America
15 [ ] Carlos Affonso Pereira de Souza
16 [ ] Abstain

NOTES

1. It is permissible to vote more than once by resubmitting a ballot during the election period; only the last vote submitted ultimately will be counted.

2. Each NCUC member is entitled to vote for the chair and for 1 EC representative in each of the 5 ICANN geographic regions (i.e. up to six people). Each NCUC member's vote is weighted as follows: 4 for large organizations, 2 for small organizations, and 1 for individual members.
