I have refrained from joining the +1 brigade in part because there were divergent perceptions of it, but more importantly because I was holding onto this idea it’d be inappropriate for the chair to endorse specific candidates, especially incumbents, for fear it could be misread as some sort of ploy to influence perceptions and deter new entrants. In fact, I sort of felt that way about incumbents endorsing incumbents more generally, but whatever. That said, I pleased to realize that my first reaction isn’t widely shared, and people see endorsing candidacies as just expressing enthusiasm for the people and process rather than as some sort of strategic manipulation, or even a final vote commitment. Thus liberated, I can say that I am very happy to see the candidacy of Carlos II, with whom I worked on the GNSO Council.
As Avri noted previously, hopefully there will be many more nominations to follow.
Best,
