Dear Tapani, I am all in favour of calling things by their own names. But I'm also strongly against any form of fundamentalism.<div><br></div><div>I think you may have missed the tone of the discussion. Please go back and read some of the emails in this thread. You may want to recall Alain's words on "<span style="color:rgb(34,34,34);font-family:arial,sans-serif;font-size:13px;background-color:rgb(255,255,255)">grouping LA and the Caribbean in a single "region" implies some sense of homogeneity, cultural or economical or political or otherwise." implying (or at least, I read it that way) that a region has somehow a homegenous set of problems and issues.</span></div>
<div><font color="#222222" face="arial, sans-serif"><br></font></div><div><font color="#222222" face="arial, sans-serif">This does not make any sense at all.</font></div><div><font color="#222222" face="arial, sans-serif"><br>
</font></div><div><font color="#222222" face="arial, sans-serif">You have to not know Brazil, for example, or Argentina, or Mexico to know that there are huge cultural and economic differences inside these countries (not to mention Canada, the US, Portugal and so on).</font></div>
<div><font color="#222222" face="arial, sans-serif"><br></font></div><div><font color="#222222" face="arial, sans-serif">My argument was, and still is: ICANN regions are not related to grouping problems of users based on their similitude.</font></div>

I think you're missing the point: it's not about whether<br>
Latin America and Caribbean should be combined as one region,<br>
but about how the region is called. People of the Caribbean<br>
simply do not see themselves as Latin Americans.<br>
Thus, calling LAC just "Latin America" is rather like, say,<br>
calling Europe just "European Union".<br>
