These factors are not alone determinative: He never set-up any non-profit corporation (or other legal entity) organized by the laws of any state. There was no board of directors. The website was registered to a for-profit corporation. </div><div><br></div><div>On the other hand, the church (who's membership you disapprove of) is a recognized non-profit corporation recognized (for at least 5 years) by the state of California and is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charity with a board of directors.
