Dear all,

You might remember that last year we developed on our mailing list a proposal for a session at the 2018 Internet Freedom Festival (IFF).

We have recently received some wonderful news from the organisers. Our session proposal has been approved.

Up until the event takes place we will continue the conversation on our mailing list, building this session together. We’ll appreciate your support in publicizing the session and in sending in ideas for how we can address the theme.
Here is a sample tweet, but you can make your own!

Interested in #DNS and #InternetPolicy? @NCUC will be at #InternetFF in March 2018 discussing how you can get involved in policy work at @ICANN. Find out more about the event www.internetfreedomfestival. org and how you can collaborate with NCUC at www.ncuc.org

We have a suggested graphic here, which you might share along with your tweet.
Our idea is to use this session at the IFF to recruit new, diverse, and active NCUC members. The 2017 conference attracted approximately 1,300 professionals from around the world. As these participants are already tracking issues like privacy and data protection, human rights in online contexts, economic growth and development for empowerment, and increasing access to knowledge, we believe they have the capacity to be quickly brought up to speed on our work. Our longer-term goal is to help them translate these skills to Domain Name System policy debates.

The IFF is a conference that explores the threats to human rights enabled by the Internet. It is organised around seven themes, one of which is “Advocacy, Policy, and Research,” and is held annually in Valencia, Spain. The NCUC’s participation in this forum is made possible through one of ICANN's CROP regional opportunities.

Thanks,

Ayden Férdeline (lead organiser) and NCUC team
