[NCUC-DISCUSS] GDPR Cross-Community Session at ICANN

That's a good starting point for discussion, Milton and i do agree that we need to communicate NCUC/NCSG strong positions with regards to WHOIS. I have the impression that our members would enjoy discussing this on this list.

Also, where would an NCSG panelist fit in the groups they suggested? And i have the impression BC has suggested the structure and possible panelists. Maybe we can try and get ours on the WHOIS User Community section? Or maybe a moderator? Or have a specific section for non commercial users?

I am still learning a lot about the GDPR so, i just have a basic understanding of it.

From the recent GDPR webinar, no one seemed to know what will be the future of whois after May 2018. If icann org wants whois to remain, this is the right time to work on a whois that will comply with gdpr.

And from what i gathered from a few ncuc members, whois is not a good thing as long as it makes public registrants' data. So as NCUC and if we are to be on that panel, should we push for the end of whois? Or are we ready/willing to work on a compromised option and have a whois which fits with GDPR? If at all possible?

Looking forward to the discussion here as we get ready for this session in abu dhabi.

Arsene
