[ncsg-policy] Fwd: Proposed Changes to Constituency Day - Silicon Valley Meeting - From Peter Dengate Thrush

This new format sounds like a good way to manage the many meetings. Although it is not clear which day is referred to as the massive board mtg day. Is it the new Tuesday?

My only complaint (and its a big one) is that the CSG is given 3 times more opportunities to attend the social events with the board than the NCSG. The social events are rotated to constituencies, not stake-holder groups (unlike the substantive mtgs). This means that all of the members of the NCSG have the same access to the board as the single and small ISP constituency or the small, but powerful IPR constituency. Access to the board at social events should be allocated equally between the CSG and NCSG. This would be a big change in the way ICANN is managed, but it needs to happen if noncommercial users are ever going to have any influence. The second-rate treatment of noncommercial users by ICANN is one of the reasons why it is hard to trust ICANN.

Thanks,
Robin

>> As I mentioned to most of you in Cartagena, the Board is proposing a change to the interactions between the various community groups and the Board at the face-to-face meetings. The change is being proposed to try to improve the format for dialogue and make the discussions more focused. The changes will be tried at the March meeting and then reviewed for effectiveness before the June meeting. There are two main changes - the first is to the meetings on Tuesday, Constituency Day. The second is to social events such as dinners, lunches and breakfasts. Attached is a document explaining the changes in detail. Please coordinate the time slots with Diane Schroeder. She will also coordinate the social events. The Board appreciates that these are big changes for the community, but our goal is to enhance the communications between the Board and the SO/ACs.
