[ncdnhc-discuss] Things to consider when voting for Adcom/Names Council

Without endorsing specific candidates,
let me put these facts before you as someone who
has done this for more than a year:

1. Will the person you are voting for actually
participate?

Adcom members must hold teleconferences at least
four or five times a year. They need to communicate
almost daily with other Adcom members. It is
extremely harmful to the progress of the constituency
to have Adcom members who do not respond to emails
regarding constituency business. Also, it is not
enough to wait for OTHER Adcom members to call
meetings and initiate actions - each representative
must be willing and able to take responsibility
themselves.

Names Council members - the top 3 vote getters
from different regions - have an even more demanding
task. They must participate in monthly NC
teleconferences that take 2 hours. Usually the calls
are NOT toll-free. To be prepared for a teleconference,
the NC representative must have read the messages
on the NC list and all related Task Force lists,
as well as the General Assembly summary. They must
also coordinate their votes and policies with other
NCDNHC Names Council members.

2. Can the candidate attend ICANN meetings?

Few of us can attend all ICANN meetings, but an
effective Adcom representative should be able to
attend two of the four and a Names Council member
should be able to attend at least three of the four.
The Salzburg Seminar can usually cover travel and
lodging expenses, but the time commitment is your own.
